The U.K. and U.A.E. have signed a landmark climate agreement in the final days of a historic U.NS.
F.-led process.
U.S., European Union and China signed the agreement on Sunday, and it is expected to be ratified at the United Nations in New York on Tuesday.
President Donald Trump and other leaders have repeatedly dismissed the pact as not being as good as he had hoped and a failure.
N. is going to be a much better deal than it’s ever been. “
But I will tell you, there is no doubt that the U .
N. is going to be a much better deal than it’s ever been.
And it’s going to happen.”
Trump also took aim at China, calling it “a very, like a basket case” for its refusal to allow its citizens to join the pact.
“China is one of the most dishonest people I’ve ever seen in my life,” he said.
“It’s just a very bad deal for the United States.”
U.N., China and Trump met for the first time at the U,N.
General Assembly in New Zealand on Monday.
Trump called for a swift conclusion to the climate agreement and urged China to respect its commitments.
“We have a lot of work to do,” he added.
“China has been a party to the United Nation, but they haven’t given us their word.”
Trump’s remarks echoed what he said last month when he said that the Paris Agreement is “not going to pass, and I don’t care who you are, I don’s,” and the U.,N.
and its partners should instead focus on the other global challenges, including climate change.
The agreement is the biggest and most ambitious international agreement to combat climate change, and the United Kingdom and other countries are aiming to ratify it at the upcoming U.P.A., or United Nations environment conference in Mexico next month.
Trump and the leaders also pledged to work together to prevent the U to from becoming a dumping ground for fossil fuels.
China is not expected to ratifies the accord, but other nations have vowed to take actions that will make the country’s pollution reduction goals.
Trump, however, is expected on Monday to announce a plan to cut greenhouse gas emissions from the U before a crucial United Nations climate summit in December in Paris.
